"The Clod and The Pebble"
"The clod and the pebble" is a poem written by William Blake, it talks about the feeling of love and what they think about. This poem describe love in two points of views, the one of the Clod and the other view of the Pebble. Clod tells that love gives itself for another and it cares about others, also said that love makes everything wright when everything is wrong. However the Pebble demostrated the contrary, love pleases only itself, it catches you for it's own confort, it's the hell when everything is wrong. They didn't undestand each other, when the Clod sang, the Pebble heard but it sounds another thing.
The Clod presents love as a good feeling, something that is neccesary in your life. Anaphora,“Love Seeketh not itself to please, Nor for itself hath any care” this means that love is not selfish, love is generous, optimistic, positive and hopefulness. Also could mean that when the things are wrong, love can make things good and take worries out, love could be the saving felling.
The pebble on the other hand, is the total opposite of the clod. It has a negative vision of love, it said that love is selfish. Anaphora "Love seeketh only self to please, To bind another to its delight". This quotation is telling that love couldn't repair all the things, is the contrary of Clod's view. Also said that love is selfish and makes you suffer.
In conclusion, the metaphors "And builds a Heaven in Hell's despair" and "And builds a Hell in Heaven's despite" force the reader to see the two views and his own conclusions based only on personal experience. In my opinion the Clod's view is better than the Pebble, because it said that love is positive and I agree with that. Sometimes love could solve many problems and in my opinion it's a healthy felling for our lives, as always love could take you a smile when you never realise that in that moment can happen and that it's an increible thing. The love isn't a obligation, it appears when you never wait for it.
Great work Lautaro. Your essay is very complete and easy-reading. The only thing missing, so as to get a better mark, are the specific names of the literary devices the author uses (for example anaphora, so as to highlight that the clod and the pebble are binary opposites).
ResponderEliminarThis is a great start. The conclusion also seems to be very personal.
The final touch: you found a picture of Blake´s painting of his own poem. Nice!
